A general in Ukraine was convicted of spying for Russia

On Monday, August 14, the press services of the National Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine reported that the Shevchenko district court of Kyiv sentenced the former employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, Major General Valery Shaytanov, to 12 years in prison. Shaitanov, who previously headed the "A" special operations center, was found guilty of treason.

From the case materials, it can be seen that Shaitanov was in secret contact with Colonel Igor Egorov of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSS) under the pseudonym "Bobil." In 2014, Yegorov, under the pseudonym "Elbrus," was one of the organizers of the occupation of terrorist operations in Donbas in the summer and the deployment of Russian military forces.
