"When you are hungry, you should not set conditions." Representative of Aliyev

In an interview with the French "Le Monde" magazine, Elchin Amirbekov, the representative of the President of Azerbaijan for special assignments, stated that according to the tripartite declaration signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia on November 9, 2020, the Lachin road was to be used exclusively for humanitarian purposes, but it was used for delivering weapons to Nagorno Karabakh and illegally exporting minerals to Armenia.

"That's why we had to set up a checkpoint on the border with Armenia on April 23 of this year," said the president's representative.

According to him, Azerbaijan offers to deliver food to Nagorno Karabakh to meet the basic humanitarian needs of the Armenian population, using the roads from Aghdam and Fizuli, but the Armenians of Karabakh categorically refuse.

"When you are hungry, you should not set conditions. What difference does it make which way the much-awaited food will arrive, from Lachin or from Aghdam and Fizuli? The main problem is to be able to get the necessary products. But there is an artificial politicization of the issue in order to put pressure on Azerbaijan from outside," he added. According to him, the Lachin corridor was closed by Azerbaijan, because there were allegedly military transfers. He also questioned the number of Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh.
