On Sunday morning, a trident, the official symbol of Ukraine, was placed on the shield of the "Motherland" monument in Kyiv.
The "Motherland" monument on the bank of the Dnieper is the highest monumental sculpture in Europe and the fifth in the world. The height of the Monument with a pedestal is 102 meters. The statue depicts a woman raising a shield and a sword.
At the beginning of August, by the Ukrainian government's decision, the USSR's coat of arms was removed from the shield of the sculpture.
The installation of the trident was planned for Saturday, but the strong wind hindered the work. The work is still ongoing.
"It happened! The Ukrainian trident is in place. It was a complex, responsible, and historical project. I thank everyone to whom this happened: donors, designers, builders, sculptors, employees of the war museum, all those who worshiped and supported these changes," wrote former Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko in the Telegram channel.
The Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Rostislav Karandev, said the works should be completed by Independence Day, celebrated on August 24.
The coat of arms of the USSR will be sent to a museum for safekeeping.
