On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he hopes to hold a "peace summit" in Ukraine this fall. According to him, this week's negotiations in Saudi Arabia are a step towards achieving that goal.
The Voice of America reports that in a statement published on the Ukrainian president's website, Zelensky said that about 40 countries will be represented at the meeting in Jeddah on August 5 and 6.
Zelensky and his team, in cooperation with allies, are trying to get broad support from the "Peace Summit." The conference is expected to establish basic principles of action to end the war.
The summit's agenda will be based on the 10-point plan that Kyiv developed last fall.
In this regard, the concept of peace formulated envisages, in particular, the complete restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the complete withdrawal of Russian troops. The venue of the summit has yet to be discovered. Reuters notes.
Ukrainian and Western officials have announced that Russia will not attend the summit.
