The commercial operation of the first AP1000 reactor has begun at the Vogtle nuclear power plant in Georgia, USA. Westinghouse Electric Company reported that the 3rd power unit has already been put into operation.
The reactor is the first state-of-the-art nuclear facility in the United States in over 30 years.
The AP1000 units at the Vogtle nuclear power plant are reportedly third-generation water-cooled reactors with entirely fail-safe systems and a modular design. They occupy the smallest relative area per MW of energy on the market.
By 2030, 12 stations will be ready in different countries. China, Ukraine, India, Bulgaria, and Eastern and Central European countries have confirmed preliminary orders.
