Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, speaking about the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations, the moderation of Moscow and Washington and the Brussels format, the Minsk Group, and the Madrid principles announced.
"After the war, Russia pushed forward the negotiations because it signed the November 9/10 statement, deployed peacekeepers, is our neighbor, and is also close to Armenia. It was natural. But as Russia became more preoccupied with other issues, competitors began to fill the vacuum. I cannot say what will happen at the end of that competition. But it is clear to me that Azerbaijan will not be the territory of that competition. Meanwhile, Armenia is slowly turning into an area of that competition, which will cause a severe problem.
Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations are conducted in a bilateral format. Mediators only invite Washington a little more often. Of course, the place of the talks plays its role, but any mediation mission is welcome. The main issue on the negotiation table is that Armenia renounces its territorial claims against Azerbaijan in writing. They declared verbally when the Prime Minister of Armenia said that Karabakh is Azerbaijan. I wish he had said that in 2019, but he was saying the opposite. Now he should put his signature under that paragraph. They say that they recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, but they also say the clause about the Armenians of Karabakh should be included in the peace treaty. It is impossible," Aliyev said.
