100-year-old Kissinger and Chinese President Xi met

Henry A. Kissinger, the 100-year-old former US Secretary of State, who managed to make the foreign policy of the United States softer towards China and is considered a friend of China, made a surprise visit to Beijing. There, Kissinger met with senior Chinese foreign policy officials, the country's defense minister, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

A representative of the US State Department told reporters at a briefing on Tuesday that the Biden administration knew that Kissinger was going to travel to China. But Kissinger "was there of his own free will, not acting on behalf of the US government," spokesman Matthew Miller said.
