Ukraine's counteroffensive against Russia is far from a failure. Still, the fight ahead will be long and bloody, although casualties on both sides are increasing, and the front lines are not changing significantly.
The United States and other allies have spent months building up Ukraine's "steel mountain" of weapons and training Ukrainian forces in combined arms techniques to help Kyiv penetrate formidable Russian defenses in a counterattack.
Responding to the question about the Ukrainian counterattack, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, said: "It's far from a failure. That doesn't mean we have to win. I think it is too early to make such statements."
