CNN reports that on the day of Prigozhin's uprising, the USA and Western allies called Kyiv and asked them to refrain from attacking Russia. "The fear was that Ukraine and the West would be seen as helping Prigozhin and threatening Russian sovereignty," a Western official said.
According to CNN, "The message was not to rock the boat here." The message was conveyed at the level of foreign ministers, deputies, and through ambassadors.
