Notable military uprisings in history

There have been military uprisings in various periods of world history. Radar Armenia presents some of them.

Napoleon Bonaparte

When? October 1799, after returning from a successful military campaign in Egypt.
Against whom? The 5-person Directory
How? Napoleon organized a special legislative session: surrounding it with troops, abolishing the Directory, and appointing himself consul. 5 years later, he crowned himself emperor.
Duration of the throne: 11 years.

Francisco Franco

When? February 1936, after returning from the Canary Islands.
Against whom? The left-wing coalition that leads the Spanish government.
How? He called on the military to overthrow the government. The Spanish army garrison supported him, but at first, the coup attempt was unsuccessful. Franco only controlled 1/3 of the country. The civil war lasted for three years.
Duration of the throne: 36 years.

Muammar al-Gaddafi

When? September 1969, when King Idris was abroad on holiday.
Against whom? The Libyan monarchy
How? He deployed military equipment in major cities, surrounded the royal palace and government buildings, cut off communications, and arrested critical officials. The practically bloodless coup was completed within two hours.
Duration of the throne: 42 years.

Augusto Pinochet

When? September 1973, after being appointed head of the Chilean army.
Against whom? President Salvador Allende
How? He joined the conspiracy against the authorities.Tanks and troops moved towards the presidential palace, then Pinochet ordered bombarding the court with two fighter missiles. Allende committed suicide during the attack.
Duration of the throne: 17 years.
