US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Beijing. Reuters writes that this is the first high-ranking American diplomat to visit China in five years.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, "Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken held frank, substantive, and constructive talks with State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China Qin Gan in Beijing today. The Secretary of State emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication channels across diplomacy and issues to reduce the risk of misunderstanding and miscalculation. The Secretary of State referred to the possibilities of exploring cooperation with the People's Republic of China on several issues of concern and general transnational issues, where our interests coincide."
According to him, the Secretary of State has made it clear that the United States will always protect the interests and values of the people and will work with its allies and partners to advance their vision of the world. "Secretary, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin also emphasized promoting exchanges between the peoples of the United States and China. The Secretary of State has invited State Counselor and Secretary of State Keene to Washington to continue discussions, and they have agreed to schedule a return visit at a mutually convenient time."
