"Contrary to Armenia's internal sentiments, Pashinyan did not take a step back;" Erdogan

On the way back from Azerbaijan to Turkey, Turkish President Recep Erdogan discussed Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations with journalists, among other issues.

He noted that promoting the peace process between Baku and Yerevan will significantly contribute to normalizing relations between Turkey and Armenia, "The doors of peace in a region where a great disaster has occurred are half open. Therefore, the parties should not miss this chance and should act responsibly," the Turkish leader emphasized.

At the same time, he called the recent visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Ankara "an important step," "Responding positively to the invitation of the Turkish side, Pashinyan overcame many obstacles and opposition sentiments in his country. I had the opportunity to communicate with him during the ceremony briefly and expressed my gratitude for his arrival in Turkey," said the president.

Erdogan also called "important" the words of the Prime Minister of Armenia regarding the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including Karabakh, "However, as I already said, there are negative sentiments against Pashinyan in Armenia. And this is a very, very important point. Until today, Pashinyan has not taken any step back."

According to Erdogan, Ankara will continue close cooperation with Azerbaijan to strengthen the unity of the Turkic world.
