Papua New Guinea intends to sign a defense agreement with the United States

Referring to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Guinea, Justin Tkachenko, the Islands Business news agency reported on Wednesday that Papua New Guinea hopes to sign a defense cooperation agreement with the United States during Joe Biden's May 22 visit.

Papua New Guinea's announcement of its intention to sign a defense agreement with the US comes a year after another country in the region, the Solomon Islands, signed a security cooperation agreement with China.
