Swedish parliament member Björn Söder sent a letter to Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Bilstöm, suggesting that efforts be made to establish a visa-free regime between Armenia and the EU because "Armenia is now moving more and more towards the West."
In particular, the MP's letter to the minister states: "Armenia still does not have visa-free access to the EU. Holders of diplomatic passports enjoy such an opportunity through the visa facilitation agreement between the EU and Armenia for short-term visa-free stays. Armenia is now turning more and more towards the West; this will mean great benefits to the country from the visa-free regime and connecting the country to the EU and Europe. After the 2020 war, they want to sever relations with Russia, which used to be the guarantor of the country's security. Currently, there are great opportunities to connect Armenia with Europe and accept the country into the European family it belongs to. As a step in this direction, from 2021, the EU has a comprehensive partnership with Armenia through the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Armenia, like Georgia, is included in the Eastern Partnership. The next step will be the introduction of the visa-free regime. Armenia's authorities and political leaders say measures will be taken to prevent such a regime from being abused. Can the minister discuss the initiative to start the process of visa-free entry from Armenia to the EU?"
