Iran has announced that for the first time in seven years, since 2016, it has appointed an ambassador to the UAE amid a realignment of relations between the Persian Gulf countries and Iran.
The move came after the UAE took steps to improve relations in August and announced it was returning its ambassador to Tehran.
The UAE has soured relations with Iran since Saudi Arabia cut ties with Iran in January 2016 after Iranian protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran in response to Riyadh's execution of a prominent Shiite cleric.
