The USA increased and Russia decreased the share of arms sales in the world market

SIPRI, the Stockholm-based international institute for studying peace issues, reported that global arms exports have long been dominated by the US and Russia (the most significant arms exporters for the past three decades). However, the gap between the two is widening significantly, while the gap between Russia and the third largest supplier, France, has narrowed. US arms exports increased by 14% between 2013-17 and 2018-22; the US accounted for 40% of global exports in 2018-22. Between 2013-17 and 2018-22, Russia's arms exports fell by 31%, its global exports fell from 22% to 16%, and France's share increased from 7.1% to 11%.

Russian arms exports decreased from 10 consumers to 8 in 2013-17 and 2018-22. Exports to India, the largest recipient of Russian weapons, were reduced by 37%, and exports to the other seven countries by 59%. However, Russian arms exports increased to China (+39%) and Egypt (+44%), and they became the second and third largest consumers of Russian arms.
