Russia and Georgia are on the verge of restoring direct flights and abolishing visas.
Leonid Kalashnikov, head of the State Duma's Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, announced this on Wednesday.
Kalashnikov noted that it is difficult to say when these decisions will occur and in what order.
On July 8, 2019, Russian airlines were temporarily banned from air transportation to Georgia by the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. On the same day, the decision of the Ministry of Transport of Russia to stop the flights of Georgian airlines to Russia came into force. The Russian authorities took this step after several thousand people organized an anti-Russian demonstration near the parliament building in Tbilisi on June 20, 2019.
