Law on money laundering is being tightened in Georgia

According to the amendment project, the National Assembly of Georgia wants to tighten the law on money laundering.

  • Money laundering will be the legalization of illegal income and the use/possession of property obtained through the legalization of illicit income or crime.

  • Financial institutions, commercial and non-commercial organizations will regularly consider the risks associated with money laundering and terrorist financing.

  • Control over politically active individuals, who are subject to unique control, will be strengthened.

  • Civilian wives of officials, deputies, ministers, judges, diplomats, members of their parties, business partners, and those with social or political contacts will also come under the spotlight.
