"Russia is unilaterally terminating its participation in the "Strategic Offensive Weapons-3" contract," said President Vladimir Putin in his address to the national assembly.
He emphasized that it is not about withdrawing from the contract but only about suspending participation.
He described that decision as forced, which was adopted against the background that the nuclear countries continue developing nuclear weapons and insist on accessing Russian nuclear facilities. He has information about the West's participation in the attempts of the armed forces of Ukraine to strike Russian strategic aviation bases.
According to Putin, Moscow has information that new nuclear weapons are being developed in the United States, and Washington is considering natural atomic weapons testing.
"If the US conducts new nuclear weapons tests, Russia will do the same; parity must be maintained," he warned and instructed the Ministry of Defense and Rosatom to ensure they are ready for such tests.
"СНВ-3" agreement is the final agreement between Russia and the USA on reducing nuclear weapons.
