Russia covers the budget deficit by selling gold

The department stated on Monday, February 6, that in January of this year, the Ministry of Finance, for the first time, sold gold from the funds of the National Welfare Fund to cover the sharply growing budget deficit. 

A total of 3.6 tons of gold was sold. In addition, the Ministry of Finance has realized 2.3 billion yuan (309 million euros) for the same purposes. In total, 38.5 billion rubles were received from the sale, the ministry reports.
