The American New York Times, citing American and Western officials, reports that the number of Russian soldiers killed and wounded in Ukraine is close to 200,000. That's 8 times more than American losses in the two decades of the war in Afghanistan.
"The war is being fought in the same way that the country faced during the Second World War when more than 8 million Soviet soldiers died. "Putin is ready to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of victims in Ukraine, although this may undermine his political support," the newspaper writes.
