The Russian "Rospotrebnadzor" press service reported that the first case of infection with a new omicron strain, the XBB 1.5 "Kraken" strain, was discovered in Russia.
"The first case of Kraken infection was registered in the Penza region within the framework of the monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing data," the agency said.
Rospotrebnadzor emphasized that they continue the constant monitoring of the circulation of variants of the coronavirus together with other departments.
