"The region's countries should solve their problems on their initiative and take ownership of them," Kilic

On December 27, the special representative of Turkey, Ambassador Serdar Kilic, gave a speech at the conference organized by the Faculty of Linguistics and Historical Geography of Ankara University. Kilic spoke about the start of the Armenia-Turkey process, the current stage, and visions for the future.

He also referred to the ongoing peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Kilic, in particular, stated that during the last meeting between him and R. Rubinyan in Vienna, it was decided to facilitate the land crossing of the border for citizens of third countries who want to visit both countries. Kilic also announced that on November 1, according to this decision, a meeting was held between the technical delegations of Turkey and Armenia. "The meeting of the technical teams was held in the morning by the Turkish side and in the afternoon by the Armenian side. Of course, it has a symbolic meaning. Regarding the opening of commercial air traffic, there are technical details, such as the barcode system, which have been agreed upon between the technical delegations. But as for the car crossings, it may be necessary to wait a little because the Alijan crossing bridge may need to be repaired since it was built in 1944. not repaired."

Kilic also referred to future steps and Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. "There are steps that we have to take. There are steps that we expect from Armenians. We will hold another meeting between the special representatives in Armenia and Turkey. It should be realized that a positive shift in one of the processes positively affects the other process. Conversely, a negative development in one of the processes affects the other. These two processes are separate but cannot be completely separated from each other. The region's countries should solve their problems and take ownership of them. This is exactly what we are trying to do with Rubinyan at the moment," Kilich added.
