"The EU has decided to deploy a support team in Armenia". Borel

The head of the EU's foreign policy service, Josep Borrell, announced that the European Council, in agreement with the Armenian authorities, has decided to send a transition support team from the EU monitoring mission in Georgia to Armenia to ensure EU awareness of the security situation and to plan and prepare for establishing a possible civilian CSDP mission in the country.

"The deployment of 40 experts in Armenia for monitoring was effective and contributed to the formation of trust. Today, we are starting a new phase of EU cooperation in the South Caucasus with the transition team, which will prepare the ground for a possible long-term EU mission in Armenia. The ultimate goal is to promote sustainable peace in the region," Borel said

According to him, this transition planning support group will contribute to Charles Michel's mediating activity in the direction of the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
