Yesterday, at the request of the Belgian prosecutor's office, the vice-president of the European Parliament, the Greek deputy Eva Kaili was arrested. She was charged with conspiracy in a criminal group, money laundering, and corruption. Six people were detained, almost all Italians from Kylie's close circle. They are suspected of receiving money and gifts from one of the Persian Gulf states. It is no longer a secret that we are talking about the host country of the world championship, Qatar. This scandal has already been called one of the biggest in recent decades in Brussels, which casts a shadow over the entire EU.
According to the European publication Político, the Belgian police searched 16 addresses. During the searches, operatives seized computers, mobile phones, and cash amounting to EUR 600,000. A "bag full of banknotes" was found in the house of Eva Kaili, one of the 14 vice presidents of the European Parliament. The Greek MP represents the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, and in her homeland, she is a member of PASOK (Pan-Hellenic Socialist Movement). Both left-wing parties have been quick to expel Kail from their ranks.
After Eva Kail's arrest, prosecutors issued a whole warrant for her arrest. According to the law, politicians can be detained for one month before the start of the trial.
The media write that the European Parliament's vice-president and associates are accused of "lobbying for the national interests" of Qatar. Allegedly, Doha tried to influence Brussels through Kail to help with gas, visa, and image issues.
