Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock was re-elected in the upper chamber of the US Congress, the Senate. On Tuesday, Warnock defeated his opponent in a tight runoff in Georgia to solidify a 51-49 Democratic victory. The Democrats got a party majority in the Senate.
Democrats have won three Senate elections in the last two years. Democrats have already controlled the Senate since last month, securing 50 seats, which would have allowed Vice President Kamala Harris to have the deciding vote as it stands now.
But Warnock's victory Tuesday has essential advantages for the Democrats who lead the Senate and the administration of President Joe Biden.
