Ukraine intends to ban the activities of religious organizations linked to Russia

Volodymyr Zelensky said that the authorities of Ukraine intend to ban the activities of religious organizations related to Russia. According to the president, the decision on such a law was adopted at the National Security and Defense Council meeting, which considered "many facts of connections between individual religious circles of Ukraine and the aggressor state.".

Separately, Zelensky mentioned examining a church-canonical connection with the Moscow Patriarchate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOCh) charter.

In May last year, UOCh held a meeting, after which it announced its separation from the Moscow Patriarchate. At the same time, the debate about whether UUE is genuinely independent of Moscow is still ongoing.
