The US ambassador to the OSCE expects the demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border as soon as possible

Ambassador Michael Carpenter, the representative of the USA in the OSCE, spoke about the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the peace negotiations, and the involvement and role of the USA in it.

Carpenter answered the question of what the USA intends to do now that Azerbaijan has rejected Macron's mediation and the European format: "The United States is actively and very deeply involved in this process and is very interested in securing a peace agreement. We will continue to look for ways to bring leaders together. It is no secret that we are working closely with our EU partners on this matter and are also considering the deployment of OSCE observers on the Armenian side of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. In particular, a needs assessment team was deployed there.

We strongly support the EU's efforts. Our goal is clear. We would like to see a demarcated border and a peace agreement between the two sides as soon as possible so that peace and stability return to the region, respect for human rights and the safety of those living in the area, and we can open a new page in the history of the South Caucasus. It will take some time to reach that end state, but we are committed to doing everything we can to support that outcome."
