Erdogan and Assad will meet soon

Turkish Hürriyet newspaper columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, who is close to government sources, wrote that a meeting between the presidents of Turkey and Syria, Recep Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad, may take place soon for the organization of which "backstage diplomacy" is underway.

Turkish President's spokesman Ibrahim Kalin announced in October that Russia offered to mediate the meeting between Erdogan and Assad. Erdogan said in mid-November that Ankara could evaluate this proposal when the time comes because there is no "getting upset" in politics. Later, Selvi noted that the meeting between Erdogan and Assad could take place in Russia with the mediation of President Putin.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Cavusoglu announced that Turkey wants to end the civil war in Syria.
