The Council of the European Union has approved the decision to include the evasion of EU sanctions in the list of crimes. The EU Council issued a corresponding statement today in Brussels.
"Today, the Council made a unanimous decision to add non-implementation of restrictive measures to the list of 'EU crimes,' which are included in the agreement on the functioning of the EU," the statement said.
The council emphasizes that this decision was taken in connection with the sanctions against Russia. "These sanctions must be fully implemented," the statement said.
The European Commissioner for Justice previously said that criminalizing attempts to circumvent sanctions in the EU paves the way for confiscating Russian business assets.
