"European countries turn to Ankara for the purchase of gas." Turkish official

"Many European countries are turning to Turkey to buy natural gas," the energy minister of the country, Fatih Donmez, said on Monday, without specifying which countries he called "neighbors."

"Many of our neighboring European countries turn to us for the purchase of gas," said the minister, commenting on the plans to create a center for the supply of Russian natural gas to Europe in Turkey. "I hope that from the beginning of next year, we will take the first steps towards creating a gas center," TRT quoted Donmez saying.

According to the minister, the Turkish authorities are finishing up preparations for the strategy to turn the country into an "energy base."
