Erdogan has appointed a Turkish ambassador to Israel

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a decree appointing Shakir Ozkan Torunlar as Turkish ambassador to Israel after restoring diplomatic relations; the relevant document was published in the Official Gazette.

The presidential decree states, "Member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Council, Shakir Ozkan Torunlar, was appointed as the Ambassador of Turkey to the State of Israel, by Articles 2 and 3 of Presidential Decree No. 3."

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that Turkey has decided to appoint an ambassador to Israel and restore diplomatic relations. Torunlar previously served as Turkey's ambassador to Palestine.
