During the World Democracy Forum in Strasbourg, the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, announced, "External threat, internal polarization, and further progress towards the European Union are the three main challenges for Georgia today."
She urged them not to forget that the Russian base is near Georgia's capital. "This is the situation in which we live, and, despite this, we are developing democratic flexibility, although it is not ideal," the president emphasized.
Zurabishvili said that today, more than ever, Georgia needs EU candidate status to maintain its achievements and move forward.
She said Georgia was "greatly disappointed" when it did not receive candidate status with Ukraine and Moldova.
"We are European and have been for so long; we must join the European family. We can't waste any time today. Georgia needs a candidate status," Zurabishvili stressed.
