The man who attacked the home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her husband has been charged with the attempted kidnapping of Nancy Pelosi and the attempted assault of her husband.
A 42-year-old man is accused of breaking into a couple's home in San Francisco early Friday and attacking 82-year-old Paul Pelosi with a hammer. The motive is investigated, but police say it was "not a random act."
The Justice Department charged the suspect, David de Pape, on Monday with two counts of federal law. These included retaliating against a family member of a US official for performing his duties, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
