At the extraordinary CSTO Collective Security Council session, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the following:
"As everyone is aware, Russia has traditionally always paid attention to stability in this direction and, since ancient times, has supported our Armenian friends in ensuring the security of the Armenian people.
As for the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement, we are doing our best for the total payment of relations between Baku and Yerevan. It is evident to everyone that not so long ago, both Azerbaijan and Armenia, like Russia, were part of one state. We have massive connections with both Yerevan and Baku, and it is impossible not to take this into account. We are all in quite a difficult situation. But, of course, we cannot stay away from the conflicts of the states close to Russia, and we are always ready to contribute to their peaceful settlement. In general, we are interested in Transcaucasia being a calm and stable developing region.
Undoubtedly, the only possible and realistic path to peace can be the path defined by strict observance of all the provisions of the famous joint statements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
Thanks to the consistent implementation of these agreements regarding the separation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the unblocking of transport communications and t, and the solution of humanitarian problems, it is possible to achieve a stable settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have discussed this many times with the Prime Minister of Armenia, and I understand that our colleague entirely agrees with this. The question is how to find those solutions. It is not easy, but in the future, it will allow us to reach a peace agreement."
