Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met in Astana. Lavrov said at the meeting. "Today, we want to discuss how things are going in your negotiations with Azerbaijan. I know there have been contacts in Europe recently, and the media is full of rumors and speculations. Of course, it would be important today to consider what else we can do so that the three tripartite statements of the presidents of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan can be implemented faster."
Lavrov also noted that a lot has already been done for the normalization of relations, including in the issues of unblocking transport connections, there are "outlines" of border demarcation.
Ararat Mirzoyan also noted in his speech that there are many issues on which Yerevan wants to know Russia's position. "We are fully committed to the tripartite statements of our heads of state; we highly appreciate President Putin's and Russia's personal contribution to the establishment of peace and normalization of relations with Azerbaijan. At the same time, we see that the Azerbaijani appetite is only growing. It is not only about Nagorno Karabakh, although the problems there have not been resolved, but also about the sovereign territories of Armenia. Armenia is Russia's strategic partner, and we expect Russia's clear position here," Mirzoyan said.
"Events are developing intensively; negotiations are going on in an active mode; there are many parties that offer their mediation efforts, approaches, platforms; we need to know Russia's position on these issues; we want to feel Russia's support and move forward in the spirit of tripartite agreements in settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. We are ready for that," Mirzoyan emphasized.
