Ukraine's counteroffensive, which began in the Kharkiv region, has not yet reached its peak and is actively moving into the Luhansk region, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) notes.
Analysts say Russian forces have failed to hold the banks of the Oskol and North Donets rivers and use them as natural borders to prevent Ukrainian troops from advancing into vulnerable parts of Russian-occupied northeastern Ukraine. The ongoing counteroffensive in the north and south are likely forcing the Kremlin to prioritize the defense of one area of operations to the detriment of the other, potentially increasing Ukraine's chances of success in both places, ISW experts wrote in a news briefing.
