Hurricane Ian may be one of the most destructive in US history

US authorities have begun assessing the damage caused by Hurricane Ian in Florida, assuming that it could become one of the most destructive in the country's history, US President Joe Biden announced on Saturday.

"We are beginning to appreciate the extent of the devastation in Florida, which is likely to be the worst in the nation's history. Our hearts go out to the people whose lives have been destroyed by this storm. We are with you. And we will stay with you as long as it takes," the head of state wrote on his presidential microblog on Twitter.

According to the latest data, at least 42 people died in Florida due to Hurricane Ian, and about 1.3 million consumers in the state remained without electricity. The fury of the elements caused large-scale destruction in the province, paralyzing the work of telecommunication networks and airports.
