The President of Georgia called the Russian referendums held in eastern Ukraine "cynical".

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, called for "strongly condemning" the referendums on joining Russia, which is taking place in eastern Ukraine.

The president announced this today in Tbilisi, near the memorial complex of the heroes who died in the struggle for the unity of the country on the day of the fall of the city of Sukhumi. Twenty-nine years ago, the capital of the autonomous republic of Abkhazia came under the control of Abkhazian separatists and Russian troops. Since 2008, the territory of Abkhazia has been declared occupied by Russia by the Georgian government.

Zurabishvili believes that holding referendums on the territory of Ukraine to join Russia is an "extremely cynical act that is unacceptable for civilized people."
