"The United States has an important opportunity to stand by the Armenian people." US Senator

US Senator, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Menendez, presented a bipartisan resolution to the US Senate. The resolution condemns the illegal and unjustified attack of the Azerbaijani forces on Armenia and calls on the United States to immediately stop security assistance to Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan's renewed attack on Armenian territories and the blatant targeting of civilian infrastructure is a terrible display of contempt for human life," said Senator Menendez. “As communities in the region, including Kapan, Goris, Jermuk, Vardenis, and Chakaten, suffer under the Aliyev regime, the United States must extend its support to the people of Armenia. With this resolution, we make it clear that it is a national security imperative for the US government to do the right thing and end security assistance to Azerbaijan once and for all."

The resolution follows Senator Menendez's letter to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in which he called on the Biden administration to take additional measures "to stand with the Armenian people as they seek to repel Azerbaijan's renewed military aggression."

President Biden said in his 2022 speech that "...when dictators don't pay the price for their aggression, they create more chaos," President Menendez wrote. "The United States has an important opportunity to stand with the Armenian people as they try to push back the authoritarian onslaught."
