Regarding what the State Department expects from the meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Brussels on August 31, Patel specifically said: "I can only confirm what we said before. The United States remains committed to promoting a safe, stable, democratic, prosperous, and peaceful future for the South Caucasus region. We call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to intensify their diplomatic engagement and reach a comprehensive peace agreement."
