Arman Babajanyan, the chairman of the "For the Republic" party, wrote on his Facebook page:
"The opening of the Armenian-Turkish border is a vital step towards restoring Armenia's sovereignty and engaging in regional realignments with a new subjectivity. Today, the geopolitical reality has changed. Turkey and Armenia have established relations without an intermediary, which shows that the dogma of an external threat no longer applies. Under these conditions, the presence of the 102nd military base in Gyumri is not a security guarantee, but a restriction on Armenia's freedom of foreign policy maneuver.
The opening of the border and the establishment of communication between Armenia and Turkey reduce the likelihood of escalation, as long as economic interests align with stability. At the diplomatic level, this is a declaration of Armenia's restored subjectivity as a regional connecting link.
This is a choice of dignity and responsibility. "Either we become a self-confident state with open borders, or we remain behind closed borders, as a territory determined by foreign calculations. It is time to redraw Armenia's place on the map as an independent decision-making state, and not a territory living under the illusion of dependent stability."
