ARF is against the bill on sanctions against the Azerbaijani elite. Danagulyan

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor Areg Danagulyan wrote on his Facebook page:

If you had told me a week ago that the ARF would oppose sanctions against Aliyev, I would simply not have believed it. I would have said that it was tantamount to treason. I would have said that the Dashnaks are smart enough not to do such a thing. But I was naive.

According to the statement of the ANCA organization, which is the mouthpiece of the ARF, the ARF is against the PEACE Act bill imposing sanctions against the Azerbaijani elite. Why? Because the bill “only” restrains Azerbaijan’s aggression against Armenia.

That is, it “only” prevents the loss of Syunik.

That is, it “only” protects the lives of 40,000+ young people serving on the border.

According to the ARF’s flimsy excuse, beyond the “minorities” mentioned above, the bill does not address Azerbaijan’s crimes against Artsakh and Armenia. Yes, the PEACE Act does not really do that — it does not solve all of Armenia’s problems. But how can that be a reason to oppose sanctions?

Look, I can completely understand people’s reservations about the August 8 agreement. But here we are talking about sanctions against Aliyev. When the ARF sacrifices the security of Armenia for its narrow party interests, it once again tears off its “patriotic” mask. It shows what a pathetic sect this once progressive revolutionary party has become.”
