Former member of the Supreme Council of Armenia and the National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh, Vahram Atanesyan, wrote on his Facebook page:
"Some Russian political scientists are campaigning, claiming that Ilham Aliyev has disowned his father, the KGB general, twice Hero of Socialist Labor of the USSR, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and Deputy Prime Minister of the USSR, Heydar Aliyev, when he called Bolshevik Russia an occupier.
These people are either morons or they have put themselves in the place of a famous animal. Ilham Aliyev repeated what is written in the preamble to the constitution adopted by Heydar Aliyev. Heydar Aliyev served not to strengthen the Soviet Union, but to implement the program "Free, independent and united Azerbaijan."
Only one person in Moscow understood this: Mikhail Gorbachev, when he said, "Heydar, you must go."
It is no one's fault that Russia calls Gorbachev a "traitor" and deifies Putin, who kneels at Heydar's grave.
So, "for what they fought, they fought for."
