Germany may recognize the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization
Baerbock told the German ARD TV channel that against severe repression of protests in Iran, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock considered it possible to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the list of terrorist organizations. "Another package of sanctions against Iran will be applied, and the possibility of classifying the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist group will be studied."
The United States recognized the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization in 2019 amid the escalation of the conflict with Tehran under the presidency of Donald Trump. This elite unit of Iran has not yet been mentioned in a similar list of the EU. Inclusion in this list would allow Brussels to freeze the assets of the IRGC.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is directly subordinate to Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and has significant political and economic influence in the country.
