On December 13, at 79, Babken Ararktsyan, a member of the "Karabakh" committee, the last chairman of the Supreme Council, and the first president of the National Assembly, passed away. It is an indisputable fact. Babken Ararktsyan's role in establishing the Karabakh movement and the statehood of newly independent Armenia is undeniable.
On the occasion of the death of their comrade in arms, Radar Armenia spoke with former deputies of the Supreme Council and the National Assembly, Aram Manukyan and Avet Grigoryan.
Babken Ararktsyan was the first deputy chairman of the Supreme Council of Armenia from 1990 to 1991, and in 1991, he was elected the chairman of the Supreme Council and headed it until 1995. During those years, Ararktsyan was also the chairman of the Central Referendum Committee and co-chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the Central Committee.
On July 27, 1995, Ararktsyan was elected Speaker of the National Assembly, becoming the Speaker of the National Assembly of the first Armenian conference. He resigned from that position in 1998, at the same time as the team of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the first president of Armenia.
He founded and managed the non-governmental organization "Armat."
Babken Ararktsyan authorizes more than 30 scientific works and university textbooks.
