Samsung introduces Galaxy Z TriFold foldable smartphone

Samsung has introduced its first mass-produced smartphone with a triple-folding screen, the Galaxy Z TriFold. The South Korean company has implemented the most advanced ideas developed over almost a decade of manufacturing foldable devices. The largest screen in the family sets the new model apart, along with innovative software solutions and several leading features.

According to the developers, one of the device's main features is two different sizes of titanium hinges with a rail-like design that "work together" to ensure smooth, secure folding despite the various weights of the individual devices. The smartphone also uses a special aluminum alloy for the side frames, a glass-fiber-reinforced polymer for the back panel, and a reinforced screen cover with a shock-absorbing layer.

Unlike the Huawei Mate XT, which folds with one panel of the main screen facing outward, the Galaxy Z TriFold uses a G-shaped folding mechanism, with the left and middle panels folding inward to cover the right panel. This form factor provides complete protection for the main screen when closed, significantly reducing the risk of scratches, cracks, and other damage.

When opened, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is 3.9 mm thick at its thinnest point. It has IP48 water- and dust-resistance.

When fully opened, the smartphone reveals a 10-inch display. It has a resolution of 2160 x 1584 pixels, a 1-120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a maximum brightness of 1600 nits. There is a small cutout on the right side for the 10-megapixel selfie camera.

The external display is a 6.5-inch Dynamic 2X AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 1-120 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 2600 nits. There is also a 10-megapixel front camera for video calls and photos.

The central camera system comprises three modules: a 200 MP primary sensor, a 10 MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens.

The device is powered by a special version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite, one of the most powerful chipsets for Android mobile devices. It is paired with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of internal memory.

Each of the device's three panels houses a three-cell, 5600 mAh battery that supports 45 W fast charging and 15 W wireless charging.

Developers have specially adapted their own One UI 8 interface based on Android 16 to take advantage of the new multi-tasking technology. This allows users to run three apps side by side while changing each app's screen size to view the most critical information. For example, an architect designing a new house can use the large screen to work with three apps simultaneously, including viewing drawings, writing concepts, and calculating dimensions, all in a single multi-window workspace.

In addition, some popular apps and features, such as My Files and Samsung Health, have been further optimized. Finally, the developers emphasize that the Galaxy Z TriFold takes AI-powered features to a new level, opening up additional user experiences, such as AI-powered photo and video editing on the big screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is scheduled to go on sale on December 12, 2025, but the price has not yet been announced. The device will be available in a single black color, Crafted Black. South Korea will be the first country to release the new tri-fold phone, which will later be rolled out to other countries, including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, and the UAE.
