Spotify has announced that it will partner with the world's largest music companies to develop "responsible" artificial intelligence (AI) that respects musicians' copyrights.

The issue of copyright, which prevents others from using a work without permission, has become a battleground between the creative and tech industries. Over the years, several tech companies have used public and proprietary data to build AI tools, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude.

Three major music companies have sued two AI music startups, Udio and Suno, for copyright infringement. Udio and Suno argue that their technology creates new music and does not replicate any particular artist's work.

Among the few notable cases is the 2023 song "Heart on My Sleeve," which featured AI-generated voices from Drake and The Weeknd. The song was removed from the platform after Universal criticized it as "AI-generated unauthorized content."
