The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar Yaghi “for their development of metal-organic frameworks.”
The 2025 Nobel Prize laureates in Chemistry have created molecular structures with significant gaps through which gases and other chemicals can flow.
This discovery could allow us to purify water from toxic chemicals, absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, remove pharmaceutical residues from the environment, and even collect water from desert air.
