Scientists from the European Space Agency have obtained images of the Sun's poles for the first time in history, leaving the plane of the ecliptic.
"Thanks to a new inclined orbit around the Sun, the Solar Orbiter spacecraft has become the first to obtain images of the Sun's poles while being outside the plane of the ecliptic," the report says.
This innovative research can reveal unknown properties of the Sun and help predict its behavior.
"We can study how material moves in the Sun's outer layers. This can reveal unexpected patterns, such as polar storms," the agency added.
In addition, thanks to the new images, scientists can track changes in the Sun's magnetic field and reveal the connection between its changes and the peaks of solar activity.
